<Biography>

Haze is an international filmmaker whose work explores themes of forbidden desires, family, and youth. Born in Seoul and raised in Seattle, she graduated from Yale University with a degree in Comparative Literature and History, furthering her studies at the FAMU Conservatory in Prague.

Currently based in Busan as a directing fellow in Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA), Haze is in post-production on Four Seasons of Youth, an anthology feature filmed over four years across Japan, the USA, México, and Korea. The short film Vain (허영), shot in Mexico, was officially selected and screened at film festivals in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. The U.S. film Vigil (철야) was invited to the University of Chicago Diaspora Film Festival.

Haze seeks to strip the audience to their most honest selves.

<감독 이력>

1999년 서울 출생. 고등학교 시절 미국으로 이주한 이채영 (Haze Chae Lee)은 다양한 문화와 언어의 경계에서 성장했다. 예일대학교에서 문학과 역사학을 전공했으며, 이후 체코 프라하 FAMU 영화학교에서 35mm 촬영 프로그램을 들었다. 

2021년 단편 <허공>이 예일 인 할리우드 영화제에 초청되며 작품 활동을 시작했다. 금기된 욕망과 가족, 젊음의 불안과 충동을 주요 화두로 삼는다.

현재 부산에서 한국영화아카데미 연출전공으로 활동 중이며, 일본·미국·멕시코·한국에서 4년에 걸쳐 촬영한 장편 옴니버스 <Four Seasons of Youth>의 후반 작업을 진행 중이다. 이 작품은 네 개의 국가와 언어를 배경으로 서로 다른 청춘의 시간을 기록한다. 

멕시코에서 촬영한 단편 < Vain허영>은 미국, 푸에르토리코, 멕시코의 영화제에 공식 초청되어 상영되었으며, 미국 편 <Vigil 철야>는 시카고 대학교 디아스포라 영화제에 초청되었다.

인간의 솔직한 내면을 응시하는 순간의 긴장과 흥분을포착하는 영화를찍고자 한다.
